The story of Contract Controller began in 1995, when we were exhibiting at a trade fair. The Director and President of the National Association of Shopfitters (NAS) visited our stand and explained that they were looking for a traditional estimating system designed specifically for the shopfitting industry.
That conversation marked the beginning of the system. One of our estimators, himself a time-served joiner, began working closely with the President of the NAS to develop an estimating solution built around the way shopfitters actually work.
The estimating system proved extremely successful, but it soon became apparent that the information created at the estimating stage could be used throughout the business. Development therefore expanded into other areas, allowing information to flow between departments rather than being entered and managed separately.
Originally called Shopfitter, the system was adopted by a growing number of companies and continued to evolve. As more functionality was added, it became increasingly important to the day-to-day management of contracts — extending far beyond its original estimating role.
It became clear that the name Shopfitter no longer reflected what the software had become. As the system was now helping companies manage and control their contracts from beginning to end, Contract Controller was the natural choice for its new name.
Today, Contract Controller continues to evolve alongside the shopfitting and joinery industry. We work closely with our customers, listening to their requirements and incorporating new ideas and functionality to ensure the system remains practical, relevant and effective.
More than 30 years after that first conversation, the principle remains the same: developing software around the real-world needs of the people who use it.
